Is It Time?
One of the most difficult experiences for family caregivers is deciding when to consider moving a loved one to a retirement community. How do you know when it is time? Adding to the difficulty is then trying to identify the community that will be the right match for the loved one’s needs. Based on our experience, we believe families should ask themselves the following questions to evaluate their own situation:
- Is my loved one becoming unsafe in their current living environment?
- Is my loved one falling or having more difficulty moving around?
- Is my loved one having difficulty with such routine needs as dressing, grooming, bathing or taking medications?
- Is the constant care required for my loved one beyond my physical capability?
- Am I becoming impatient or irritable toward my loved one?
- Would ongoing activity programming and increased social interaction benefit my loved one?
- Would placement outside the home result in more enjoyable visits and outings with my loved one?
If your answer to any of these questions is yes, we can help. Please contact us to learn more about our community and what we can offer. We are happy to provide further insight and guidance with your loved one. Please call the owner David Schonberg anytime at (504) 861-4530.
